Japanese Carcrash history.I’ve been struggling to find the words to describe Japanese Carcrash to any of you who have yet to experience a show.
Seeing this band live is kind of like going to a warehouse party in space in 1988 and everyone in attendance, while very fun, is also a bit angry after having been laid off from their jobs at the space robot factory, but they’re drinking space beer and are on space unemployment so everyone’s kind of optimistic about their space future, regardless of current circumstance.
That makes sense, right? No? You just need to see this spectacle for yourself.
The local industrial-tinged synth pop group is releasing its third album “Synth Positive” this Thursday and it would do you good to slip into space for a minute. Even if you don’t think an evening of analog synthesizers is really your thing, you’ll have fun. And you will dance.
Allow yourself to slip into the sea of bleeps and bloops and bass, and you have two opportunities to do so this weekend: At the band’s album release party at The Pub on Thursday or at a special Halloween show Saturday at The Art StudioA Well in my youth I, like many musicians, struggled to find an identity and a path of what I wanted to do. I went from trying to write electro-pop to writing really dark sinister works. But when I began to create sort of catchy tunes with a bit of depth to them I would also degenerate bits and pieces to noise and the concept was born. I had created the name many years before and decided this was Japanese Carcrash.JCC has toured the USA on a small scale four times and released three official albums and a few not-so-official. We’ve worked with Steven Seibold (Hate Dept. & Pigface), Paul Robb and Christopher Anton (both from Informtion Society).Back when we were all using MySpace I remember finding an Italian electro artist that listed Japanese Carcrash as an influence. What? For real?
I have tried to quit Japanese Carcrash several times for various reasons. But then one day I would write a new song and I say to myself “I guess I’m doing Japanese Carcrash again.” Q I hear you’re planning to release your new album on vinyl. What made you decide to go that route?
A Unfortunately, we are no longer going that route. But I have always wanted to have a release on vinyl. I had a limited budget this go ‘round and chose to produce some really nice T-shirts and release a CD instead.
Q Your bio says you’re “fueled with analog synthesizers and a variety of electronic oddities.” What are some of these electronic oddities?
A Really cool vintage Dubreq stylophone. Remember getting your hearing tested as a child with those beep beep tones? Well, I have a clunky old sine wave audio generator and a Paia Oz mini-synthesizer.Also, no computers are used in creating my music. I have much more fun turning knobs and moving sliders than pointing and clicking. Computers are used in the final production, however.
